About

This year Girls Build Lennox Academy consists of 18 Latina members who hope to make a change in their community and daily life.  We are choosing to focus on promoting and supporting trash waste and air quality. The way we will achieve this is by taking action and helping clean the streets once a week and planting in the school garden.   This project is very much needed since our community is next to a stadium where the air quality and trash are seen more often because of big events that are held every week.  This project can help bring the community together in order to make our community a better one. In conclusion, in order to affect change, we need to start with ourselves. As citizens and residents of Lennox we must show others that the smallest trash can make a difference in making our community better, and the smallest plant can also make for a better air.
During the last month and a total of 3 days of cleaning for an average of 30 minutes to an hour. We  were able to collect a total amount of 66.5 pounds . We also planted a total of 17 suklatant plants in the school garden. 

Small amounts of trash been collected little by little 
​Each Wednesday we picked up trash that was found in the streets around the school. We found an enormous amount of trash in unexpected places. Just like shown in the first picture, we found a lot of trash in between the school bushes. In the second picture you can see just what we found inside of  the bushes.
Meanwhile another group decided to clean the streets and once again there were a lot of surprises. We  found a lot of trash in bushes, sidewalks, and under wheels. We also found trash that had been thrown away on the side of the roads.

Planting succulent plants

Did you know that succulents actually help remove toxins from the environment. Well we decided to help clean the air in the school by planting a total of 17 of these in the school garden. We plan to water and take care of them. We also plan to be able to add some more in the future to help the ecosystem in the school.
